Notes About Encrypted SMTP Using Transport Layer Security (TLS)

Here are a few tips concerning using SMTP over TLS. 

1. Requires certificate, but it does not have to be a trusted certificate (self-signed is OK).
2. Still uses port 25.
3. Requires EHLO (extended HELO)
